Democratic lawmakers Criticize Trump After He States They Should Face Execution

Democratic officials voiced fury after former President Donald Trump accused a coalition of Democratic legislators of being "betrayers" and asserted they should be taken into custody and penalized "with execution" following their release of a contentious video.

The Recording That Sparked the Controversy

The video footage, shared on earlier this week, includes six Democratic congress members who formerly acted in armed forces or security roles.

"As we did, you all took an vow to defend and defend this founding document," the officials declared in the 90-second video. "And right now, the threats to our democratic foundation aren't just from foreign nations, but from within our own country. Our laws are clear, you can reject improper directives, you can decline illegal orders, you have to decline unlawful commands. No one has to follow commands that break the statutes or our constitution."

Donald Trump's Furious Reaction

The recorded statement reportedly trigger a heated response from the ex-president.

On Thursday morning, Trump wrote on Truth Social: "It's called SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these betrayers to our Country should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In an additional message, he stated: "This represents really serious, and Harmful to our Country. Their comments cannot be allowed to remain. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a third post, he added: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, subject to punishment by DEATH!" He also redistributed a declaration that said: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Party Officials Answer

Following Trump's statements on that day, House Democratic leader issued a joint declaration denouncing the statements.

"Violent politics has no place in America," they declared. "Elected officials who participated in the video all acted our country with exceptional loyalty and honor. We clearly condemn Donald Trump's disgusting and risky calls for execution against elected officials, and urge Republican lawmakers to forcefully do the same."

The opposition officials also mentioned that they had been in contact with protective services "to ensure the security of these members and their families."

"Donald Trump must right away take down these unhinged online messages and retract his aggressive rhetoric before he causes harm," the announcement added.

Officials' Strong Answer

The lawmakers who participated in the video also published a response.

"We identify as ex-military personnel and security experts who value this nation and took an pledge to defend and support the constitution of the United States," they declared. "That oath is permanent, and we plan to maintain it. No warning, coercion, or promotion of aggression will deter us from that fundamental obligation."

"What's most telling is that the ex-president considers it liable to punishment by death for us to restate the legal requirements," they added. "Military personnel should know that we have their protection as they execute their pledge to the founding principles and duty to adhere to only legal commands. It is not only the proper thing to do, but also our obligation."

They added: "The entire nation must unite and denounce the ex-president's calls for our execution and political violence. This is a time for principled stance."

Additional Partisan Reactions

The Opposition leader also censured Trump's remarks and published on social media: "It's important to understand: the President of the United States is requesting the death of elected officials."

He stated: "This is an outright THREAT. Every Senator, every Representative, all citizens – irrespective of political affiliation – should censure this without delay and absolutely."

The Republican House speaker supported Trump's assertion that the Democrats had been involved in "sedition", describing the video as "wildly inappropriate", commenting: "This constitutes very harmful, you have prominent officials of Congress advising troops to defy commands, I think that's historic in US history."

The Conservative representative also reportedly stated to journalists that in what he read of Trump's publications, Trump was "explaining the offense of rebellion" but that "lawyers have to analyze the wording and decide all that."

Administration Reaction

During a executive branch meeting on later that day, when questioned by a media member, "Would the president want to put to death members of Congress?", the executive branch representative answered: "Certainly not."

"We should understand about what the former president is responding to," the official said. "You have current representatives of the federal government who conspired to arrange a digital communication to personnel of the US military, to serving soldiers urging them to defy the president's legal commands."

She said: "The integrity of our armed forces rests on the chain of command, and if that structure is broken, it can result in fatalities, it can result in chaos, and that is exactly what these elected officials ... are basically encouraging."
