Former British Broadcasting Corporation Consultants Face Members of Parliament's Questioning After Assertions of Bias in Leaked Memo
We open with questions from Conservative lawmaker the committee chair, who chairs the group.
She initiates by providing details to the leaked memorandum written by Michael Prescott and published in a national newspaper.
"It is not my wish for the British Broadcasting Corporation tilting this way or that way, I simply desire it straight, fair and equitable," he declares.
Upon being questioned if he thinks the BBC is systematically partial, Prescott replies: "No, I do not. To be clear, tons of stuff the BBC does is top-tier - including documentary and fictional content."
But he adds: "There remains significant effort that must be undertaken at the BBC."
A further former external BBC specialist interviewed by the committee, Caroline Daniel, remarks she regards the British Broadcasting Corporation extremely earnestly and that it has a "ongoing system and vigorous discourse" across dynamic and complex subjects.
"Whether the BBC was willing to have a thorough discussion and debate and implement changes?" she questions. "In my view, yes they were."
